I have a weakness for anything salted, caramel or chocolate, and when I tasted these bars, I think I went to heaven! I adapted the recipe from a couple other recipe’s…to make one ooey-gooey delight! These are amazing, and the salt flakes on top add amazing flavor. Enjoy!
1 package of Werther’s Original Chewy caramel 5.5oz (or any other brand you prefer)
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 C butter, melted
1 C brown sugar, packed
1 1/4 C flour
1 1/4 C rolled oats
1 1/2 t. baking soda
6 ounces semisweet mini chocolate chips
Maldon sea salt flakes
Preheat oven 350 degrees. Combine caramel and cream in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir until completely smooth; set aside. In a separate bowl, combine melted butter, brown sugar, flour, oats, and baking soda. Lay half of the oatmeal mixture into the bottom of an ungreased 8×8″ pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Remove pan from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over crust. Pour caramel mixture over chocolate chips. Crumble remaining oatmeal mixture over caramel. Return to oven and bake an additional 15-20 minutes, until the edges are lightly browned. Remove from oven and cool completely before cutting.
If you would like to eat them sooner, you can put in fridge to increase cooling time, but do not serve cold, rather room temperature.
